Black Turtle-Sold Out for 2025
A staple of Latin America, these small, jet-black beans cook up to a rich dark brown with an amazing broth. Perfect with rice, tacos, black bean soup, dips or whatever else you can imagine.
Arikara- Sold Out for 2025
Originating from the Arikara tribe of North Dakota, this bush bean has a smooth texture and creamy flavor. Try this light bean in any blended dip or salad
Lina Sisco’s Bird Egg- Sold Out for 2025
A plump bean with a creamy texture; the Bird Egg was named after Seed Savers Exchange co-founder Lina Sisco, whose family it had been in for many years before she donated it to the seed collection. Best uses include dips, pasta, and chili.
Bean Party- Sold Out for 2025
A colorful blend to add more flavor complexity and texture to your next pot of beans. Great for soup, chili or burgers.
Calypso- Sold Out for 2025
Originating in the Caribbean, Calypso is also known as Orca or Yin Yang. Best for soups and stews, these beans double in size when cooked and have a mild, earthy flavor that is often compared to potatoes.
Jacob’s Cattle-Sold Out for 2025
With its rich, nutty flavor and ability to hold its shape over long, slow processing, this plump kidney bean is perfect for chili, stew and casserole. Believed to have been domesticated by the Passamaquoddy Tribe of eastern Maine, its name stems from the resemblance to the markings on Hereford cattle.
King of the Early-Sold Out for 2025
A beautifully mottled red bean with a hearty flavor, King of the Early compliments everything from rice dishes to scrambled eggs. It’s also perfect for chili, refried beans or bean salad. First appearing in seed catalogs about a hundred years ago, Maine farmers get the credit for keeping this variety going.
Swedish Brown-Sold Out for 2025
A Scandinavian heirloom found in many Swedish cookbooks. The Swedish Brown is a small, tender bean that holds together well and has a slightly nutty flavor. Traditional recipes are baked beans or soup.
Vermont Cranberry-Sold Out for 2025
A descendant of the Dwarf Cranberry bean grown by native peoples of New England, Vermont Cranberry has been part of Northeast meals since at least 1800. Creamy and full-flavored, these beans are very versatile. Great for pasta, bean burgers or simply tossed with herbs and good olive oil.
